The Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association is offering an Education Series over the next several weeks in Belfast. Details below:


GMORA is happy to announce we will be running a 4 week Sailboat Racing Education Series in Penobscot Bay! All classes will be hosted by Front St. Shipyard in Belfast and run 1800-2000 starting May 16th.

The first class "Intro to Racing" is aimed at those who have sailed but have never raced. The following 3 classes "Racing Rules of Sailing", "Wind shifts and Currents" and "Boat to Boat Tactics" are intended for the experienced racer to sharpen their skills for the upcoming season.

 

May 16th - Introduction to Racing 1800 – 2000 at Front St Shipyard

The class will be aimed at those who know how to sail but have never done any racing and would also be a good fit for newer crew learning the ropes.  Learn the basics of racing, classes, and ratings, and racing rules.
- The Official "The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017 - 2020" Book is Included
- Snacks and beverages (soda, beer, and wine)
- Cost: $20

 

May 23rd - Racing Rules of Sailing 1800 – 2000 at Front St Shipyard

A comprehensive review of the Racing Rules of Sailing

- Changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 Edition will be highlighted
- The Official "The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017 - 2020" Book is Required
- Snacks and beverages (soda, beer, and wine)
- Cost: $20 (Waived for anyone who attended a previous class)

 

May 30th - Wind shifts and Currents 1800 – 2000 at Front St Shipyard

Focus will be on different types of wind shifts and where to expect them
- How to look at a chart to predict current
- How to read current lines on the water
- Snacks and beverages (soda, beer, and wine)
- Cost: $20 (Waived for anyone who attended a previous class)

 

June 6th - Boat to Boat Tactics 1800 – 2000 at Front St Shipyard

Emphasis will be placed on Starting, Mark Rounding, and Covering
- The Official "The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2017 - 2020" Book is Required
- Snacks and beverages (soda, beer, and wine)
- Cost: $20 (Waived for anyone who attended a previous class)

All classes will be held at Front St Shipyard in Belfast, Building 1 Second Floor.  Doors will open at 1730 and class begins at 1800.
